1. Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC)

Job Profile and Responsibilities

The job responsibilities of a Lower Divisional Clerk include the following:

1. To register mails.

2. Basic file clerk work like indexing, registering and maintaining file registers.

3. To receive documents and maintain the subsequent record.

4. Typing of official letters and orders

5. To prepare simple drafts and statements.

Salary Package

SSC CHSL LDC gets the Pay Band 1 from Rs. 5200 – 20200 and Grade pay of Rs. 1900 which amounts to a gross salary of Rs. 19000/- per month.

After formally completing their work experience as an LDC he or she is promoted in the following stages

1. Assistant/ Upper Divisional Clerk

2. Division Clerk

3. Section Officer

2. Data Entry Operator (DEO)

Job Profile and Responsibilities

This is an absolute desk job on a computer with following work:

a) To prepare reports on computer using MS office software

b) To enter and manage data entered in MS Excel spread sheets

Salary Package

The salary of DEOs varies for the ministry or department they get selected. Some provide higher grade pay than the others. The salary package of DEOs falls in Pay Band 1 of 5200 - 20200 and grade pay of Rs. 1900 or Rs. 2400. It amounts to a gross monthly salary of Rs. 19,000 - 20,000.

Data Entry Operator (DEO) in the Central Government are promoted as mentioned below in the increasing order.

1) Data Entry Operator Grade B

2) Data Entry Operator Grade C

3) Data Entry Operator Grade F (System Analyst)

3. Postal Assistant

A Postal Assistant (PA) has the following functions to perform:

1. To locate the correct address of the addressee, and forward the mail to the addressee.

2. In case the address of the addressee cannot be located, efforts are made to situate the address of the sender by opening the letter or else returned to sender.

3. If mail cannot be delivered either to the addressee or to the sender, it is disposed off after locking up for the given period.

Salary Package

Postal or Sorting Assistants are given a Pay Band 1 with pay structure of 5200 - 20200 and grade pay of Rs. 2400. It amounts to a gross monthly salary of Rs. 20,000. This is the maximum salary level obtainable amongst all posts under the SSC CHSL recruitment.

Promotions are subject to experience and inter-departmental exams where they are promoted as under:

1) Lower Selection Grade (LSG) / Supervisor

2) Higher Selection Grade (HSG) II / Senior Supervisor

3) Higher Selection Grade (HSG) II / Chief Supervisor
